“O Lugar onde pessoas com os mesmos objectivos, estudam e praticam em conjunto”. 

Esta é definição de “Hoitsugan” que se encontra no site oficial do mítico Dojo em Tóquio. 

Hoitsugan é o termo aparentemente criado pelo Grande Mestre Nakayama Masatoshi, após o seu regresso da China, durante a segunda ocupação Japonesa, (1937-1945), onde foi intérprete militar.

Na cave do prédio onde vivia, no bairro de Ebisu-Nishi, construíu o seu Dojo - Hoitsugan, onde existiram durante a década de 70, seis camaratas onde albergava alunos não residentes em Tóquio e estrangeiros.

Foi precisamente numa destas camaratas, no Hoitsugan, que José Gomes Pacheco - Sensei Peté - pernoitou na fase inicial dos seus treinos de Karate com o Grande Mestre Nakayama, em 1972. Lá treinou durante 3 anos até à sua graduação de 2o Dan.

Numa época tão distante a nível tecnológico e de globalização de informação, num ambiente cultural tão diferente da realidade ocidental, com um nível técnico exponencialmente elevado, e com treinos física e emocionalmente muito duros, é difícil imaginar as emoções e sentimentos de quem por essa experiência passou.

Nessa sequência, foi apenas natural, que Sensei Peté, em 1975, aquando do seu primeiro regresso do Japão, e formação da ASKP, escolhesse para o seu Dojo o mesmo nome do do seu Mestre. 

Curiosamente, o Hoitsugan, em Portugal Continental situa-se na sua capital, na cidade de Lisboa, é tal como o original, numa cave.

Lisboa, obteve o seu primeiro foral em 1179, trinta e dois anos após a fundação do país. Em 1256, é elevada a Capital do Reino.

Com uma área de 100km2, e pouco mais de 500.000 habitantes, Lisboa impressiona pela particularidade da orografia das colinas, pela sua proximidade ao única ao Atlântico e simultaneamente ao rio Tejo.

Cidade efervescente de vida e de luz, com uma cultura única ligada ao fado, à gastronomia, à vida de bairro, às festas populares, à arquitetura; cidade com mais de cem parques, jardins ou quintas, onde o antigo e moderno se têm fundido de forma natural e harmoniosa.

Cidade que merece sempre mais uma visita, prometendo novas descobertas a cada novo encontro.

É precisamente na baixa de Lisboa, num dos bairros mais antigos e típicos da cidade, que se situa o Hoitsugan.

Desde 1975, que no Hoitsugan em Lisboa, se treina ininterruptamente.

Ao longo dos últimos 45 anos foram muitas centenas de Karatecas que lá treinaram, sob a supervisão de alguns dos mais graduados Instrutores de Karate Shotokan do mundo, na busca do aprofundamento dos seus conhecimentos e do aperfeiçoamento do seu Carácter.

Lágrimas, suor e sangue. Literalmente. Não necessariamente por esta ordem.

Para alguns privilegiados, é local de treino habitual. Para outros, apenas pontualmente. Quer para uns, quer para os outros, a emoção do treino no Hoitsugan é inevitavelmente singular.

O Hoitsugan é um Dojo místico. Um lugar único. Repleto de sentimento e respeito pelo ensino e treino do Karate JKA, praticado desde a formação da ASKP.

Indissociável, desde a sua formação até aos dias de hoje, o Dojo Hoitsugan em Lisboa, tem como Instrutor principal, o Sensei Peté Pacheco.

Nascido a 1 de Agosto de 1949, iniciou o treino de Karate no início dos anos 70, na Casa da Mocidade Portuguesa em Lisboa.

Em 1972, em conjunto com os seus companheiros de treino, Vilaça Pinto e Afonso Lopes Vieira, parte numa aventura até ao Japão em busca do treino do Karate Shotokan na sua origem.

Uma viagem que fez de carro até Bruxelas, (onde treinou durante algum tempo com o Sensei Miyazaky, no seu Dojo), e mais tarde de avião até Tóquio.

Em Bruxelas, após um acidente de viação que destruiu o carro no qual pretendiam chegar ao Japão, via Rússia, encontraram também apoio do Sensei Sergio Gneo; arranjaram trabalho e depois de juntarem algum dinheiro, compraram uma viagem de avião até Tóquio, onde conseguiram ficar, apesar de não terem conhecimentos da língua, nem visto de entrada.

Até 1975, o Sensei Peté treinou nos Dojos do Sensei Nakayama e do Sensei Kanazawa, bem como no Honbu da JKA, tendo realizado o seu exame de 2oDan. Ainda durante este período, (1972), obteve o 2o lugar de Kumite individual, no campeonato de Shinjuku.

Regressa a Portugal em 1975; funda a ASKP, e em 1977 parte de novo para o Japão, onde ingressa no curso de Instrutores da JKA que conclui com sucesso. Em 1979 obtém a graduação de 3oDan e em 1980 integra a equipa de Tóquio que venceu o campeonato do Japão nesse ano.

No início da década de 80 regressa a Lisboa, mantendo a regularidade e duas ou três viagens por ano até Tóquio e muitas outras por toda a Europa, quer como Árbitro Internacional, quer como prelector em estágios, sendo naturalmente uma referência ímpar no Karate Shotokan. Foi ainda selecionador nacional da Federação Nacional de Karate Portugal.

Atingiu a sua graduação actual de 7oDan em 2005, na sede da JKA em Tóquio.

Em 2008, classifica-se como Examinador “A” da JKA e é convidado a integrar o “Shihan- Kai”, (Conselho e Instrutores da JKA), honra concedida a pouquíssimos ocidentais.

Em 2017, a JKA distingue o Sensei Peté com o grau de Shihan, reconhecimento raro, que atribui de forma justa por toda a sua devoção e capacidades no Karate JKA durante quase 50 anos de dedicação total.

"The place where people with the same goals study and practice together". This is the definition of "Hoitsugan" found on the official website of the mythical Dojo in Tokyo. 

Hoitsugan is the term apparently created by Grand Master Nakayama Masatoshi after his return from China during the second Japanese occupation (1937-1945), where he was a military interpreter.

In the basement of the building where he lived, in the neighborhood of Ebisu-Nishi, he built his Dojo - Hoitsugan, which existed during the 70's; six dormitories where he housed students not resident in Tokyo and foreigners.

It was precisely in one of these small rooms in the basement of Hoitsugan, that José Gomes Pacheco - Sensei Peté - stayed overnight in the initial phase of his karate training with Grand Master Nakayama, in 1972. There he trained for three years until his graduation from 2nd Dan.

In a time so distant in terms of technology, information and globalization, in a cultural environment so different from Western reality, with an exponentially high technical level, and with very hard physical and emotional training, It's Just hard to imagine the emotions and feelings of those who have gone through this experience.

In this sequence, it was only natural that Sensei Peté, in 1975, upon his first return from Japan, and formation of the ASKP, (Associação Shotokan KarateDo Portugal), chose for his Dojo the same name as his Master's.

Interestingly, the Hoitsugan in Continental Portugal is located in its capital, the city of Lisbon, just like the original, in a basement.

Lisbon obtained its first fort in 1179, thirty-two years after the founding of the country. In 1256, it is elevated to the Capital of the Kingdom.

With an area of 100km2, and just over 500,000 inhabitants, Lisbon impresses by the particularity of the orography of the hills, by its proximity to the only Atlantic and simultaneously to the river Tagus.

A vibrant city of life and light, with a unique culture linked to fado, (a very particular type of music), gastronomy, neighbourhood life, popular festivals and architecture; city with more than a hundred parks, gardens or farms, where the ancient and modern have merged in a natural and harmonious way.

A city that always deserves another visit, promising new discoveries at each new meeting.

It is precisely in downtown Lisbon, in one of the oldest and most typical neighborhoods of the city, that Hoitsugan is located.

Since 1975, at Hoitsugan in Lisbon, they train continuously.

Over the last 45 years many hundreds of Karate Instructors have trained there, under the supervision of some of the most graduated Shotokan Karate Instructors in the world, in the pursuit of deepening their knowledge and perfecting their Character.

Tears, sweat and blood. Literally. Not necessarily in that order.

For some privileged, it's a regular training facility. For others, only punctually. Both for one and the other, the excitement of training at Hoitsugan is inevitably unique.

Hoitsugan is a mystical dojo. A unique place. Full of feeling and respect for the teaching and training of Karate JKA, practiced since the formation of ASKP.

Inseparable, from its formation to the present day, the Hoitsugan Dojo in Lisbon has as its main Instructor, the Peté Pacheco Sensei.

Born on 1 August 1949, he began training in karate in the early 1970s at the Casa da Mocidade Portuguesa in Lisbon.

In 1972, together with his training companions, Vilaça Pinto and Afonso Lopes Vieira, he set out on an adventure to Japan in search of the training of Shotokan Karate in its origin.

Returns to Portugal in 1975; founds the ASKP, and in 1977 part again to Japan, where he enters the course of Instructors of the JKA that successfully concludes. In 1979 he graduated from 3ºDan and in 1980 he joined the Tokyo team that won the Japan Championship that year.

At the beginning of the 80s he returned to Lisbon, keeping the regularity of two or three trips a year to Tokyo and many more throughout Europe, either as International Arbiter or as a prelector in seminars, being of course a unique reference in Shotokan Karate. He was also national selector of the National Federation of Karate Portugal.

It reached its current grade of 7ºDan in 2005 at JKA's headquarters in Tokyo.

In 2008, he qualified as an Examiner "A" of the JKA and was invited to join the "Shihan-Kai", (Council and Instructors of the JKA), an honor granted to very few Westerners.

In 2017, JKA distinguishes Sensei Peté with Shihan's degree, a rare recognition, which he attributes fairly for all his devotion and abilities in JKA Karate for nearly 50 years of total dedication.
